Little Elves will be working together with the foundation stage which is the National Framework [see sidebar left] divided into six main areas.

The six areas set out below, outline the goals
that children, educated in the UK, are expected to achieve by the age of five.

1|Practical Life

Children carry out
simple exercises such as polishing, transfer- ring, pouring, and threading.

Here, the children develop concentration, self-motivation, and confidence, which then transfers into the later academic work.

Most importantly, Practical Life bridges the gap between home and school - between dependence and becoming independent.

This allows the child to become very interested in the activity itself and more independent and aware of his/her environment.

2|Sensorial

Through Sensorial tasks children learn about comparing, sequencing, sound, smell, weight, and texture.

All these activities prepare the child for more advanced maths and it allows them to develop perception using their senses.

The sensorial aspect improves coordination and concentration and frames the groundwork for language.

3|Mathematics

Through the preparatory exercises of the Practical Life and Sensorial stages, the child is already introduced to maths.

All the materials are concrete and this allows the child to absorb the basics of mathematics.

The children learn how to share, combine, count, and compare using the materials.

The materials are designed to help the children to learn and really understand mathematical concepts.

4|Language & Literacy

The Montessori classroom provides
the children with the opportunity to develop their vocabulary and self-expression.

The children are introduced to phonetic sounds of the alphabet at first and this will lead the child easily to reading.

There is also a book corner to encourage a positive attitude to reading. It provides them with a whole range of classic and modern books.

5|Cultural

Children will be introduced to all cultures using books and Role Play.

We will also teach them history, geography, biology, science and cookery which will give them the understanding and appreciation of all living things.

6|Creativity

The children will be encouraged to engage in many arts and crafts, role-play, music, and dance activities.
